In the current economic climate, cheap holiday deals are the only option for some people. If they can afford a holiday, many are looking at holiday ideas that are nearer to home, and not only that are more local, but that cut out some of the excesses.
In the past far more people might have decided to fly off to exotic destinations and paid for extra things when they arrived. Perhaps the Red Sea was a glorious ideal with endless diving excursions and cocktails on the menu. At the moment a lot of people are choosing to shelve this fantasy for a little while, just to conserve their resources – it’s a case of never say never.
So then, if you’re based in the UK, consider holding off on that trip to far, far away and look at what’s right on your doorstep. Why not choose to enjoy what’s free? Great walks, breathtaking views and the company of those you love.
There are quite a few options for staying in forests in the UK. Log cabins have sprung up in various forests across the land. In the Forest of Dean, close to Wales, there are some four-bedroom log cabins with all the amenities you could possibly need, as well as private hot tubs outside.
It is possible to arrange great activities like zip wire adventures with local tour companies through the tourist office. The same can be found in Sherwood Forest – famous for tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, who you can imagine gallivanting around outside. If there are children with you, these characters make for great bedtime storytelling.
This sort of holiday is perfect for long walks in secluded forestland. The privacy you can enjoy is second to none and the only expense incurred is the accommodation and food.
There are options that are semi-forest stay as well. Places like Center Parcs have been around for yonks. Here you can stay in accommodation that is right next to forest or woodland, with great cycle tracks. You also have access to all kinds of other activities. You might take a dip in the pool or enjoy just one little treat and have a facial. The place is less private with many families staying here at one time. This means kids can mix with other kids and you can let them run off and have fun while you relax.
In Devon, there are woodland cottages that not only afford exploring land under trees, but are not too far from some of the UK’s best beaches too. There are large-lawned areas to chill out in, as well as acres and acres of privately owned woodland with access. Should you wish to liven up the peaceful stay head to local pubs and eateries not too far away.
So why not go and rediscover nature? Take your binoculars, spot deer and other wildlife, before chilling out in a hot tub under a leafy canopy.
