Planning a Tourist Trip to New York, What You Need to Know

By Phineas Upham

If you’re headed to New York, there are a few things you should know before you ever leave your home city. The first tip is that above ground is a lot easier to navigate for newcomers than belowground, but you just need to follow the signs and you’ll get to where you need to go. With a map firmly in hand, you’re ready to embark on your New York Trip. Here are the things you need to know.

New York has Seasons

Prepare yourself for blizzards in the winter, and humidity in the summer. That’s reality for New Yorkers. There is also the occasional swarm of cicadas that comes through the city. That said, new York’s climate throughout most of the year is relatively mild. The best time to come might be spring, when Central Park is bound to look its liveliest. Winter also has a special kind of charm, but gets busy around the holidays.

You can Book Outside the City to Save

There are several ways to get into the city of Manhattan from both New Jersey and Philadelphia. Philadelphia also offers a fairly rich experience on its own, although not as grandiose as what you’ll find in New York. It will require some travel time, but you can save cash for attractions or Broadway shows. Plus, you get to visit a second city.

Prioritize Your Stops

The Broadway lottery is not a practical use of time for a tourist who isn’t there for that experience. Instead, opt for a matinee show. The Natural History Museum offers an incredible experience, as does a tour of Battery Park. There is so much to see and do, just be sure you prioritize so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
