How to travel with your dog
If you love your pet and find it difficult to leave him behind before heading out on holiday, consider taking your pet with you on your adventures. Travelling with a pet can be rewarding, but it will require some planning to ensure your pet is safe and happy during your holiday. Here are some smart tips to help you travel with your pet.
Understand the hotel’s pet policy and fees – Speak to your hotel directly and ask them about their pet policy. Ask questions like can your pet stay in your room, are there any extra charges and is there a designated floor for pets.
Know your pet’s behavior – Consider your pet’s behavior before including him in your travel plans. For example, if your dog barks at strangers or is uncomfortable in new places, this could mean that your dog ends up barking and disturbing other guests. Try a trial run at a nearby pet-friendly hotel and see how your pet reacts to new surroundings.
Have a plan if the hotel’s policy does not let you leave your pet alone – If the hotel does not let you leave your pet alone, ask the hotel if they have other resources like pet walkers or a sitter for hire.
Research pet-friendly restaurants – Ask your hotel if they can provide a list of restaurants that will allow you to bring your pet with you. Most restaurants with outdoor seating will allow dogs to be leashed under the table.
